Folio panelled calf with blind toolings & corner florets (early reback, lacks label & top of spine leather, some old repairs where patches of leather were missing). Title in double ruled border +Dedication leaf +14pp Preface +[4]pp Table +779pp +[20]pp Index. Gutter stain to early part of book not affecting text, last index leaf a bit dusty else all pages well attached, without ownership marks, no tears and crisp and clean. Eight full page half titles with either a dedication on the back or a Preface or longer dedication on a following leaf. Biblical citations in printed marginal notes with additional good margins includes recommendations for the education of children, the follies and dangers of irresolution & delaying, obligation of oaths, reforming vicious habits among others. This 1696 first edition of a very popular book is scarce, it was followed by many 18th century editions.
