Description FINE BINDING octavo (19x14cm) blue gilt-ruled leather, spine on 5 raised bands with compartments extra gilt bands, edges with gilt dentelles and blind-tooled reverses (spine slightly sunned, tips bumped). All edges marbled to match the fine marbled endpapers. Binding stamp T. Kerslake & Co. Bristol on flyleaf, 895pp + [1]p printer's name Swift and Co. High Holborn. Slight foxing to prelims and index else clean, tight and white paper. Inscription C.R.C. Galiano Island B.C. to 1st of 2 white endpapers else no annotations, no loose pages. *Very handsome binding of Hallam's seminal history of Europe in the Middle Ages, which went into a dozen editions over 50 years from its first publication by John Murray in 1818.
