Quarto speckled leather on 5 raised bands with compartments handsomely gilt and with title label gilt (head of spine & lowest compartment damaged, tips worn but covers securely attached). Coat of Arms bookplate of Marchione Salsa in blue ink and another of William Ward, 3rd Viscount Dudley on pastedown, 382pp collated domplete. Endpapers bit foxed else clean and crisp throughout with handsome typography, extensive notes & curious observations never brought to light before. *Early Italian translation of Derham's Physico-Theology: or, a Demonstration of the being and Attributes of God, from his Works of Creation (1713). It contains original scientific observations, including one of the earliest theoretical descriptions of a marine chronometer - p28 note (4) in this Italian translation (Koberer, W., Note on the First Use of the Term "Chronometer", Society for Nautical Research 2016).
