Folio large paper copy (15x9.5in 382x245mm) Volume 3 only, early 18th century gilt-ruled full calf, spine gilt titled & ruled on 6 raised cords, endpapers with armorial bookplate Cork & Orrery, Orrery name, date 1742 & shelf marks on flyleaf. All Edges Gilt, [8]pp Title & prelims +416pp +140pp Annotations & Index with final Register for all 3 volumes. Neat early ownership Collegii Parisiensis Societatis Jesu at head of Title. Plato's text in parallel columns of Greek and Latin with sectional letters A B C D E between, neatly ruled in faint red throughout. One top page corner torn off without any loss of text, light brown marks on a few pages where leaves of silver paper were once laid in, otherwise without written notes, clean and crisp throughout. Collates exactly with Vol 3 of Boston Public Library copy (Adams P1439, Schreiber 201, Renouard Annales de l'imprimerie des Estienne pp145-146). *Splendid large paper copy of the renowned Estienne edition of Plato's works, Volume 3 containing 10 of the Dialogues, 13 Letters and the whole 79-page Annotations by de Serre and Estienne. From the Paris Jesuit library (see Garnier, Systema Bibliothecae Collegii Parisiensis Societatis Jesu, 1678) and then 1742 the library of classical scholar John Boyle (5th Earl of Orrery after his father's death in 1731).
