Description Folio 299x188mm contemporary leather on 6 raised bands with red gilt spine label (rebacked using most of old spine, leather scuffed and with some black stains) [38]pp +542pp +[1]p errata. Titlepage double ruled in red with ownership to foot "George Dighton .. 1757" (same MS signature to last page of book). Paper repair to margin of Title without loss to print. Front free end paper loose with some chipping & edge losses, and a printed shield emblem with 3 spear heads + initials M S G. Marginal damp tide marks here & there but all paper strong and crisp. *Scrivener begins by explaining that the churches in New England in the new world have given a lead in printing for their churches a similar kind of book that we would like to have available to the Anglican Church. He then goes on the complain of many inconsistancies and falacies of other works published in England and says that he here wishes to set matter straight. In 40 headings he lists the points of difference between the Protestant and Roman Catholic church..A wide margined copy leaving room for all the printed side notes (Wing S2117, and note to later catalogue: "see letter TB to Richard Rawlinson, 17 June 1735, Bodleian Library MS.Rawl.lett.30,f203).
