Description Two Volumes in one, quarto (205x161mm) contemporary dark calf (worn corners, rebacked in matching leather with defective original spine laid on). Titlepage in red & black +[2]pp +[8]pp dedication +176pp +[30]pp index +905pp +[1]p blank +[75]pp index +[1]p approbation etc. On title page there is an ink stamp "College Library Carlow" and a faded ownership "Hugonis Armacani 1724" [Hugh Boulter was appointed Archbishop of Armagh in that year]. TP is dusty, repaired tear at foot with small loss to imprint, dedication pages edge-dusty, damp stained throughout but paper mostly strong and quite readable. Small worm track to lower margin of 13 leaves and one opening with ink marks affecting a few letters, end-papers may be newer. *First part consists of the Life of Thomas a Becket, his wounding and death and happenings after his martyrdom. The 5 books contain his letters to his fellow churchmen in England, on the continent and to the Vatican.
