Description Two Volumes duodecimo half calf gilt, marbled boards with 2 spine labels gilt to each volume (head of one spine lacks 1.5cm of leather/one hinge cracked and neat but held by cords) half title + frontis + titlepage + [iv] Preface +351pp +(errata); half title +titlepage +494pp +[1]p corrections. Coat of arms bookplate of Thomas Carnegy of Craigo in each volume. Marginal brown stain to part of Vol. II but not touching text only headline. *A neat clean set of this biography of Father Sarpi. Paolo Sarpi (1552–1623) was a Venetian patriot, scholar, scientist and church reformer. His most important roles were as a canon lawyer and historian active on behalf of the Venetian Republic (Wikipedia).
