Seven Volumes 12mo (175x110mm), brown roan on 5 raised bands (3 front boards re-attached, spines starting to split on 2 other vols, leather scuffed). Frontis +xxiv +323pp +[12]pp index +[4]pp C. Davis publisher's list; Vol.2 Frontis + viii +312pp with index +[4]pp Davis booklist; Vol.3 Frontis +xviii +366pp with index; Vol.4 Frontis + Title + dedication to Sir Hans Sloan +356pp +[10]pp index; Vol.5 Frontis + Title + contents +329pp; Vol.6 Frontis + Title + contents + xxxii explanation of plates +308pp +[4]pp book list; Vol.7 Frontis + Title + contents +323pp. Coolated complte except for 9 folding plates lacking from Vol.3). Bindings delicate, Vol.2 with lower margin wormholes for about 90 pages but hardly affecting any printed areas. Contents generally crisp and clean with no loose pages, no annotations or ownership, no marks of damp. A few wrong folds to plates but all tight, clean and no tears. *A profusely illustrated set of 7 volumes of this comprehensive work, covering a wide variety of educational subjects. Fifth edition of the English version translated from French by Samuel Humphreys (1698?-1738). Starting with natural history, they deal with various sciences, and include much on trades in final two volumes (ESTC N24037).
