Talbot,Eleanor W. - WONDER-EYES AND WHAT FOR 1880
[J71410]

£20.00

Author: Talbot,Eleanor W.
Title: WONDER-EYES AND WHAT FOR
PlacePub: London
Publisher: Cassell, Petter, Galpin & Co
Date: 1880 copyright
Illustrations: Chromolith illustrations (29 incl.pictorial titlepage) printed one side only after Eleanor W. Talbot.

9.3x7.2 inches pictorial boards (rebacked in cloth/corners worn/edges chipped). Titlepage +28 leaves. Each page has a fine chromolith illustration and a poem. Corner of flyleaf clipped to remove inscription. Several fingering and other marks and six pages with a marginal tear but no loss. The last page, obviously once loose, has a tear and corner loss to lower margin affecting 1cm to frame-line surrounding. It is dusty with edge chipping and corner creases not, however, affecting the illustrations or the text. Although unpaginated the work is complete as each page shows shadow-offset on the blank verso of the preceding leaf and these shadows all match the plates with the final page having no shadow. It was also issued in 9 page "Parts" as an advertising item for Deland's "Saleratus, soda and chemical baking powder" and possibly other products. These parts issues, with fewer pages, were side sewn and our book retains the stab marks of this method of binding usually only used for thinner booklets so that here the book has been gutta percha bound with the stab marks still visible in the gutter margin. Book is tight and the large chromolithographic illustrations are amusing and bright.

This book was added to our catalogue on Saturday 06 June, 2009.
