First TP & dedication leaves browned & last leaf repaired to back (no loss); 2nd TP cut back at fore-edge with no loss of text; 3rd TP browned with inner edge paper loss just affecting 1cm of outer frame line of illustration and is pasted to 1st leaf of To Reader, obscuring left margin & beginning of some words, with small break-through of paper at the plate mark (no loss); last half-title & TP have a clean tear from gutter edge without loss. The copperplates show historical scenes of battles, naval engagements, sieges, natural disasters (volcanic eruptions, floods, famines, plagues, earthquakes), also interior domestic scenes, court & church councils, atrocities of war and the inquistion with torture, burnings, birth monstrosities, the working of a printing press, gambling etc. Illustrations measure 100x150mm, one plate (Ccc2) is a cancel pasted on. Some foxing/browning throughout but paper still strong, about 15 leaves with marginal edge repairs and 2 cut short at the bottom margin (no loss of text), a few other tears. Copious side notes enable quick navigation of Dutch text. Part 1 covers to 1000AD, Part 2 to 1576, Part 3 to 1637, Part 4 to 1697. *A monumental World History up to 1697 with fascinating illustrations.
