Quarto 20th century half-calf blind tooled spine marbled boards gilt spine title (tips rubbed/lower cover with scuffing and paper surface repair). Frontis portrait of Cook + Engraved Pictorial Titlepage +[2]pp Preface +798pp. Titlepage and frontis laid down with marginal loss, the last leaf repaired and p797 missing the lower half while p798 lacks the endings of a few lines. A few more leaves with marginal paper repairs but not affecting text and 3 plates and two leaves of text are more or less printed off-center but with only one just inside the edge of the plate. Some foxing but a neat and tight copy of this edition issued in 50 parts. It includes the first voyages in the Endeavour to Australia; the Second voyage in the Resolution and Adventure to the South Pole and the Third voyage round the world in the Resolution and Discovery. On this voyage Cook was killed and eaten by the natives of an Island in the South Sea.
