Lacks front fly leaf. Quite some foxing but neat, clean and tight. *As explained in the Preface since this was a book of instruction for Princes the story of Virtue, Wisdom and a desire to procure the good of Mankind had to be contained in a tale of interest for his aristocratic young pupils and to wrap it in fable of days long gone was politic all round in teaching the skills and morals of an enlightened ruler. It became a popular schoolroom work and was translated into many languages. While late 18th and 19th century copies abound, any editions or translations in Fe´nelon's lifetime [1651-1715] are quite scarce (ESTC T138526).
