Description
Folio contemporary speckled calf rebacked to match on 6 raised bands with black gilt spine label (tips worn/fore-edges knocked). Titlepage in red & black +[4pp Dedication] + [2pp To Reader] +4pp of laudatory poems +428pp including Index + Approbation & Privilege leaf. Two typefaces are used including italic, side notes provide bibliographic references. Endpapers and first few pages a bit dusty & fingered, fly leaf with handsome engraved bookplate of Joseph Gillow dated 1890. Gillow (18501921) a biographer & genealogist was founder of the Catholic Record Society and a leading authority on recusant history. Note on blank leaf before title reads "This book in large paper was sold in the Auction of Cardinal Dubois Library at the Hague for 11:14-0 Anno 1725". *Religious history of England from the Catholic perspective published in France. Nicely restored original binding, neat copy with good provenance.
