Brown ink splash 3 x 1cm on blank back of titlepage which has seeped through to the front, and about 6 ink spots in the book that have affected 2-3 neighboring leaves. Some foxing and some pale damp tidemarks, mostly marginal, which neither obscure the text nor affect integrity of the paper. A few other signs of use but generally clean and tight. *The author, a Hellenised Jewish philosopher, tried to combine Hellenistic thought and Jewish traditions. His work was not however popular with either as he complains in "De Somniis" [contained in this work]. Philo deals with history eg in "Flaccus" he describes Jewish life in Alexandrine Egypt and how it changed when Caligula became the Roman Emperor. Philo bases his religious doctrines on the Hebrew Bible and especially the Books of Moses, their literal & allegorical meaning etc. Symbolism was hidden in words, numbers, tenses & gender in the Bible as discussed in his "De Allegoriis Legum". This editio Princeps includes some works considered spurious.
