Description
Folio half calf brown cloth boards spine gilt titled (tips worn/bumnped, most of spine leather relayed on later cloth reback) [12p] +850 columns +[18p=index] +[1p=blank]. Titlepage has been cut down to outline shape of the text and printer's mark, mounted on old paper which is wrinkled and torn. First gathering with some worming affecting text of the dedication & preface only. Some pale damp tide marks at the beginning, some pages foxed with variable dark browning to the printed area but text still quite readable and paper still supple. Some marginal short lines to call attention to the passages by a reader and about a dozen line numberings with 7 or 8 leaves with ink underlining of text. Occasional ink spots & a few X marks in the text. Some early commentary to a few margins. *Valles was an internationally respected professor of medicine and chief physician to Philip II of Spain. He wrote extensive texts on Galen, Aristotle, Hippocrates and medical and philosophical controversies.
