Octavo late 18th century pastepaper covered boards with contrasting gilt lettered label (rubbed but entirely sound) Titlepage verso with Privilege +[6p Dedication & to reader] +795pp +[35p index] +errata leaf/verso blank. Lacks final blank leaf. Faint 2cm round stamp, possibly doubleheaded eagle but no lettering visible, also an ex libris of Bontoeus 1638 to margin, no other writing in the book, no worming and no foxing. With printed side notes and yet with good margins. Clean and tight. *The first 4 books are by the Monk Aimoinus and carry the early history of France down to A.D.654 after his death the Fifth book was written in two different monastaries and carries the work down to 1165 and the birth of Philip II. Not much is known about Aimoin and in fact an earlier printing of this history, under a slightly different title, refered to the author as Annonius.
