Description Quarto vellum-spined marble-papered boards, old manuscript title to spine (1" splits to head and foot of spine and small hole where vellum is missing, marbled paper worn & deficient). Titlepage in red and black +(12pp =dedication & to Reader), 238pp, (10pp index). The two parts (Libri Primi pp1-126, Libri Secundi pp127-238) in one volume through-paginated. Latin ownership inscription on pastedown of John Lang of Baconsthorp near Holt in Norfolk 23 Sept 1703, small round stamp of Medical Book Society at top of title-page and manuscript note of date at foot corrected to 1678, title-page uniformly browned, light water-stain to lower corner of first and last 15 leaves, text otherwise neat clean & tight. *Wedel was a physician knowledgeable in pharmacy and chemistry - this text deals with the medicinal properties of drugs including early use of opium narcotics. Although he espoused many "modern" methods he was also steeped in superstition and alchemical and astrological practices. A prolific author and lecturer he later wrote a monograph on the use of opium.
