Description
Small quarto half calf (covers off/v.worn & with holes in cover - really needs a nice rebind as internal condition is V.G.) Titlepage +(10pp) +351, [4], +116, 14, [1], +304, 168, 170pp Errors in pagination: 119 as 116, 164 as S64, 245 as 241; PtII p4 as italic letter l; PtV p.84 as 80, 146 as 461 One of five "testina" editions where the titlepage contains vignette of Machiavelli. Agrees with Gamba 1st issue but cannot find 1ono misprint on pp165. It certainly does not conform to Gamba 2 or 4. In this copy p.95 is mispaged 9. A very nice neat copy with no inscriptions, no marginalia, and no tears despite being printed on rather thin paper. In the original Italian with the Imprint added after the printing of the book [sl.misaligned and sl.variant font] Contents: 1: Historie --2: Il principe &c 3: Discorsi 4: I sette libri dell'Arte della guerra 5: L'asino d'oro .. con tutte l'altre sue operette. *"Machiavelli remains one of the most controversial figures of political history. While addressing a wide range of political and historical topics, as well as embracing strictly literary forms, he has come to be identified almost exclusively with his highly controversial manual of state, The Prince" (Teuber).
