Description Quarto near conetemporary calf (covers worn and almost detached & other detached/6 raised bands to spine, spine gilt but spine leather damaged/worn) All Edges Rouged TP in red & black +(36pp)+634pp +(30) 313-314 omitted in pagination and no.369-370 repeated but collation correct. Signatures: [dagger-2daggers]4 *-***3) A-OOOO4 (lacks ***4 a blank). Text in Latin with quotations and examples in Greek. Coat of Arms of Fr. Wernsdorf also Wellington College Coat of Arms bookplate. A neat nice copy internally worth a rebind. *This was the first world history still extant that was written by a Portuguese. Orosius was a disciple of St. Augustine and at his suggestion he wrote this work trying to show that natural disasters were not caused by the wrath of neglected pagan gods and that such calamities had become less severe since the spread of the Christian faith.
