Description
Octavo early 19th century speckled calf spined boards with vellum tips and black spine label, gilt bands to spine (tips sl rubbed) TP+7 leaves +183 leaves + (8 leaves of index, errata & colophon) + final blank. TP laid down to strengthen small (erased?) thin patch. Name to bottom margin. Back of TP has a neat old contents list in sl.faded MS ink. Some uniform paper tanning and three or four pages with more foxing. 8 pages have a few lines neatly underlined and 5 prelims have pale water spotting mostly confined to the margin. *This history of Karl the Fifth in his war against Tunis and the Barbary states of north Africa. The three maps show shipping, town walls & gates, gun emplacements as well as a floating platform with cannons. One larger scale map shows people and houses in the walled city. Rare, only one copy in auction records back in 1983 (BM STC, Dutch Books 183).
