Quarto contemporary overall blind-tooled calf on 4 raised bands, spine gilt with one of two spine labels with ties (rear lower corner slightly damaged/? Ties original/hinges sl.worn and 1" leather loss to lower front hinge but entirely sound) Engr.TP +(iv)=dedic)+ copperplate portrait by Merian +(xxviii )of prefaces & contents) +1518pp +(lx p of indices + colophon leaf with Wittenberg heirs of Salomonis Auerbach & printer's mark dated 1628 + errata leaf & final blank. Fore-margin of engraved TP tatty with minor loss, one page with clean tear without loss and the folding plate has some worm damage with minor loss. As usual sporadic stronger browning due to the inks used. *The book was considered important enough to have a shorter pocket edition or EPITOME produced soon after this original. All editions & even the epitome are Rare. Sennert's major contribution was to introduce chemistry as a part of the medical curriculum. This work deals not only with diseases & medicine but also natural history. His works are credited with the first scientific description of scarlet fever, scurvy, arthritis and fevers. The 2nd edition of 1620 first added the section on Surgery which is cited as the best survey of the conditions in his time.
