The folding plates have been mounted on linen probably at the time of rebinding when their gutter insertions and any tears have been neatly repaired. Sanguine stamps (about 8) of the Inner Temple and fine Coat of Arms bookplate of the Society with the flying Pegasus on FEP. A very neat clean copy (no worming/no tears etc) of this controversial book. *The author was a Hebrew scholar and cabalist & this work was first published in France. It deals with and disposes of the accusations against Jews and orientals by Christians. The 2nd part deals with the magical, astronlogical and divinatory powers of the Persians and their use of amulets and the 3rd part deals with early astrology, horoscopes, clouds, meteor significances and astronomical observations in the final part. These were sensitive topics for the Catholic church and his employment as librarian to Cardinal Richelieu so it was condemned by the Sorbonne faculty and many of the French editions are published without publisher's names (WING G105).
