First 3 leaves have small repair to foot margin, small worm track on preliminary pages becoming a single pin-sized hole until small track again for last 50 pages but only marginal throughout, no letters are affected. Minor marginal tan stain on fore-edge of preliminaries only, these pages are also somewhat browner as are a few other gatherings but the paper is good, strong & supple. In all a neat, complete copy with a nice ownership inscription by "Elizebeth Mount her Book 1714" (WING 6664C). *Includes verse dramas written while Cowley was at school & college. Explanatory page pointing out that the poems/plays are scarce especially as some were left out of earlier editions. Cowley (1618-67) was considered to be the greatest poet of his day surpassing even his contemporary Milton. A royalist who helped Charles II keep in touch with events while in exile. The six books of plants were written because he needed cover for his return to England and chose the study medicine and herbalism.
