Octavo in fours 165x110mm contemporary calf (tips worn hinges starting to split at top/foot of spine) [xx] + 72, 79-114pp (printer's error as signatures and catchwords correct) but lacks one leaf pp99-100 (supplied in facsimile). Some letters on p52 faintly printed, a few pages at beginning creased, else crisp and clean. Preface signed S.B. ("the Author who onely designed it as an innocent recreation to divert the Mind .. and also with insinuating delight to please the Ladies" (Wing A.3046). *Imperfect copy of a scarce book. Maggs Catalogue 1447 (2011) describes another copy as follows: "Free translations of 52 poems by various hands, including Abraham Cowley (11 poems), John Oldham, Thomas Wood and Francis Wallis. There is an interesting preface signed 'S.B.', who describes himself as the 'author', but has not been identified. This is the second English collection of Anacreon, preceded only by Thomas Stanleys translation of 1651". A Nonesuch Press reproduction limited to 725 copies was published in 1923.
