Octavo blue colored pictorial cloth (tips worn/bit rubbed & marked but entirely sound) 158pp. Prize bookplate from the Wesleyan Sunday School, Osmaston. *The authoress is not further identified by the British Library but is the writer of at least two further juvenile stories. This one about a happy family living with aunt and grandmother while their father is in India are pleased to hear the news of their father's return to England and promotion however the boy falls ill and when he awakens is blind. With strong faith the family spend a happy time until the Indian Mutiny causes the father to cut short his leave and returning to India where he meets a fellow officer who was caught in the fighting and is dying and promises to take the man's son who was smuggled to safety by his loyal Indian servant. In turn the father is badly wounded. His blind son is meanwhile deteriorating and just as the father is invalided home the boy dies, however not all is doom and gloom in this story as the orphan from India grows into a fine young man and marries one of the daughters. Mabel marries the vicar.
