Description Octavo handsome pictorial cloth, bright gilt figure of girl leaning over a fountain with coloured flowers, sky & ground on bevelled boards (tips rubbed). All Edges Gilt 472pp endpapers foxed but rest of book hardly at all. Name FEP & small name label Hattie Leggatt tipped to back of titlepage. *An especially nice bright binding. Susan Warner (1819–1885) was an American evangelical writer of religious fiction. She wrote 30 novels under the name "Elizabeth Wetherell", many of which went into multiple editions. The Wide, Wide World (1850) was her first novel andthe most popular (Wikipedia).
