2 VOLUMES large octavo original blue cloth gilt lettered on spine (damage to head and foot of spines for about 1cm 942 to foot of each spine in white/1cm corner broken off lower cover) viii+errata+823pp notice leaf+errata leaf+384pp ex library with library stamps on EPs title and some pages of each volume (marginal & unobtrusive) Coat of Arms bookplate on FEPs. Very clean copy with presentation stamp from British Museum. *Collection originally made by Thomas Astle Keeper of the Records in the Tower (of London) in late 18th century then passed to Duke of Buckingham. Contains Anglo-Saxon Charters, Monastic Chartularies, 14th century MSS in verse, A wardrobe book of King Edward II, the Inventories of plate and jewels of Queen Elizabeth I, State papers (English and Hanovarian). Useful primary source for English history especially strong on history & antiquities but also including science & medicine & cookery.
