Volume I large quarto handsome late 19th century gilt blue half morocco 5 raised bands spine extra gilt compartments gilt marbled sides (tips rubbed) Top Edge Gilt. Titlepage in red & black + back of contents blank + (xvi) +796pp + (xlivp)index & errata paper fault leaving small lacunae to margin just affecting part of catchword & one letter of bottom lines. First leaf of index with 1" triangle torn out, some faint staining and some edge dusting since the pages are mostly uncut at fore-edge & bottom edge. This First volume was published 7 years AFTER the second volume and together are titled RERUM ANGLICARUM SCRIPTORUM VETERUM.It is substantially longer than the second volume and contains 15 monastic chronicles including William of Malmesbury's, The Chronica of John Wallingford, the Scottish History of John Fordun, among anonymous Manuscripts and less well known early annals. Coat of Arms Bookplate of William Henry Mason on FEP. Complete in itself. We do not have the other volume which has only 5 chronicles and the two are usually listed separately in COPAC libraries except in WING where they make up WING G-154 together.
