Two small Bookplates, Ex Libris Ludovic Blondin, & earlier bookplate of Friedemann Graf und Herr von Werthern with Motto "Wahr! dann standhaft" (STC 839). Rare monograph on the evils of popery based on sources by Vadian. Written as a History of the Life of Henry IV, 1050-1106, Holy Roman Emperor: mentions surprisingly large number of British personages, viz. Venerable Bede, John Scotus, Lanfranc, Wm. the Conquorer, etc. Black Letter with printed sidenotes, text in German. The 104 text woodcuts are of superb quality and were most carefully inked and printed, some are after designs of Holbein. Internally in Very Good condition.
