Octavo red cloth with pictorial onlay spine decorated art nouveau style in black (slightly marked/spine bit sunned & torn at head for 11mm without loss) 184pp. Prize bookplate to free end paper of Braunton Congregational Sunday School given to Bernard Parkhouse for faithful attendance. Half title and title & last 2 leaves with a few pale foxing marks else foxing to fore-edge only. Clean and unmarked, no loose pages, no tears. *Story of lost toddler who is taken in by a poor laundress and claimed as her own son. He excells at school, wins a scholarship with the help of a local doctor, makes his way despite teasing becausee of his poverty scholarhship. After other adventures and an introduction to religion is finally reunited with his wealthy real parents.
