Minor edge browning. Two works bound together, the first edition consisted only of Part I with 50 emblems. The emblems are nearly full page having a caption and number above and a few lines of moral below and are detailed and lively scenes of life in 18th century Holland. The 4 plates of The Spiegel are printed on one side only (versos blank) and numbers repeating that of the facing page. *The illustrations show children, street scenes, household occupations, trades, astronomers, watching naval battles from shore, exploring foreign lands and meeting Africans, making cider, having hunting accidents etc. (Landwehr 759 & 760; Praz p.502).
