LIMITED EDITION (550 of which 500 for sale) pictorial printed parchment covers (spine darkened, strengthened on inner face, not visible without removing casing). Limitation leaf + publisher's list leaf +xix +[1]p pedigree of Caxton's Aesop +283pp inc. Appendix, synopsis of parallels and index. Partly uncut unopened. Titlepage has a small erasure to blank area, slight edge browning not extending into the margin. *Jacobs' History of the Aesopic Fable which includes the influences from India and Oriental fables and a long section on Aesop in England is a thorough study of the influences of earlier fables on Caxton's compilation. An in depth study.
